Creating a Component

Components

To create a component you must first create a project as described in the section called “Projects”. You must then create the initial version for the project as described in the section called “Versions”. Having multiple versions of a component is useful when you want to use different versions of a component in different projects. This is described in more detail in the section called “Updating a Component”.

If the component files have not yet been added then you should upload the component files when adding the version. If the component files have already been added to a project then you can create the component based on this project folder. To do this right-click the component version in the Projects view and select 'Create Stream Now'. You then need to select 'Administration | Manage Components'. Click on the 'Add Component' button to launch the wizard.

You will first be asked to select the folder you want to make into a component. Select the 'Streams' tab and select the folder containing the component files.

After clicking 'Next' you will be asked to select the folder where you want to put the files. You will want to put the files at the root of your component so select the stream without creating a folder.

After clicking 'Finish' the files will be added to the component version. You can right-click the component version and select 'Show Files' to see these files. You can right-click the project version from which the component was created and select 'Show Files'. You will see that the folder which is using the component is using the jigsaw icon.

Note

If you right-click the component version and select 'Show Submitted Changesets' you will see that a changeset has been created to add the files. The changeset will show that it is merged from the the project version using the component.
